POKOTABI / Fufufu
お酒とお肴 ふふふ
Plump aji fry, sashimi and dashi-infused Japanese-style fried chicken pair with craft beers of distinct character. At Fufufu, choosing what to enjoy with a drink is part of the pleasure.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Start with a glass of craft beer and a craving for aji fry: it sounds like a fitting way to begin an evening at Fufufu. One diner recalled that the fish was plump and the coating crisp, making a fine match for beer. Another was struck by the generous size and thickness of the aji fry, and enjoyed it with different combinations of salt, wasabi, mustard, sauce and soy sauce. The menu also lists a limited-quantity dish called “Aji fry made with sashimi-grade aji”.“
The beer list includes Baba no Blonde, described as light and refreshing with little bitterness, and Yakushi Ale, noted for its aroma, bitterness and lively finish. With aji fry, you could opt for an easy-drinking beer or one with a little more bitterness. Smaller sizes are available, making it easy to choose a pour to suit the meal.
For more fish, an assorted sashimi platter is available for 1,600 yen per person, with 4 kinds and 2 pieces of each. To go with a drink, there is dashi-infused Japanese-style fried chicken, as well as the “3-item snack platter”, which combines potato salad, sashimi with sesame soy sauce and mackerel rillettes. Diners have also remarked on the fragrant dashi in the fried chicken and the not-too-sweet flavour of the lemon sour. To finish the meal, choose a small beef tendon bokkake rice bowl or a house-made rice ball filled with kombu tsukudani or tuna mayonnaise. The restaurant is described as suitable for solo dining, too, so you could start with a drink and one dish, then add fish and small plates as you go.
